The update history of SIMS and AIMS releases

The page provides a short description of functionality updates that downloads provided below give access to the last relatively well tested and stable version of the software (thus not all versions are included). The release of upgrades are planned approximately 1-2 times a year.

History of SIMS updates

Version 2.14 (released on 14.04.2010)

General user functionality

• New concept of Collections (somewhat resembling AIMS Technologies) has been added. No configuration options for different Collections as yet, but thsi is the functionality that is planned to be developed.
• A possibility to link Data/Supplementary files (very similarly as this can be done in AIMS) to entries at each of the levels has been added.
• Completely reworked data upload, provides a number of configurable options and generally allows uploading of data at all 3 levels from a single file.
• In "Batch" modes Check/uncheck all function now applies to all (not just visible) entries; checkboxes are also preserved when navigating between multiple pages at the same level.
• Generation of IDs now are optional; the option to generate/not generate IDs can be specified individually for each technology.

Administrator functionality

• The Customization of SIMS instance (i.e. adaptation of it to a particular database structure) now doesn't not require recompilation of Java classes.
• The referncing of SIMS from AIMS has been considerably simplified. No more need to copy SIMS hibernate mappings and parts of conf/systemConst.xml file to AIMS deployment directory. Classes for accessing SIMS database now is a permanent component of AIMS and independent from SIMS configuration, which is being referenced.
• The value of Upload name in Metadata... tables for predefined fields are now read-only; the value used is specified in conf/systemConst.xml file.

History of AIMS updates

Version 2.10 (released on 15.11.2010)

General user functionality

• Reworked functionality and interface for downloads of multiple data/supplementary files (Data file export). The file export parameters (FTP server name and login details) can now be entered by any user via web interface and no pre-configurations with system administrators is longer required. These ftp connection parameters can also be saved for re-using for other file export sessions.
• A new page that allows user to request a new technology configuration. These "technology requests" lists most important configuration parameters (field names, data types etc) and request page creates both a request email to system administrator with "readable configuration request" as well as an XML template which can be used to create new already partially configured technology. Also an option to create technology requests from existing templates is provided.
• A number of modifications to user interface (Edit/Clone/Navigate icons are moved to the right of entries; revised interface for export of files, matadata and transfers to repository).
• Expanded functionality for metadata export on the basis of XML templates (referencing of any SIMS level from any AIMS level is now supported; some simplifications of syntax of XML configuration files).

Administrator functionality

• A number of internal software changes to make this version compatible with Tomcat 7.0.

Version 2.05 (released on 14.04.2010)

General user functionality

• New Data transfer functionality providing option to transfer a set of metadata together with data files to a repository (e.g. EGA) with a "single click". The trasnfer supports strong data encryption (if required) as well as a feedback mechanism providing information about transfer's success.
• Now it is possible to reference any SIMS level (Persons/Visits/Samples) from any AIMS level (Views/Studies/Assays), the referencing option are configurable seperately for each pair of levels.
• Completely reworked data upload, provides a number of configurable options and generally allows uploading of data at all 3 levels from a single file.
